Jaitley lambasts Manmohan, calls his press meet a farce

The main Opposition BJP on Friday lambasted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over price rise and corruption, calling his press conference a farce.

Stating that there was nothing new in the PM's press conference, except that he ruled himself out of the third term, leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said the conference was to announce his own farewell. Jaitley tore into the UPA II, saying Manmohan did not express any regret about the over-all corruption and price. Instead, he chose the occasion on Friday to rationalise it.

"Except the announcement he is unavailable, the rest of the PC was a formality and turned out to be a farce. If we read between the lines he admits that his Government failed to curb corruption and check unemployment and contain inflation," he said.

The senior BJP leader slammed the prime minister for rationalising corruption.

"He failed to check corruption in coal block and 2G. He could have stopped it. He said corruption was in UPA 1 but he won following 2009 election. Does he mean to say by winning elections charges of corruption disappear. This excuse could also be used by criminals, who at times win elections," Jaitley said.
