iPhone 6 to Come With Solar Screen

Looks like the iPhone 6 rumours are in full swing now! Right after news of the iPhone 6 display already being finalised, comes news that the display will sport self-charging solar panel. Cool right? But no, don’t get excited already and read the complete news with a pinch of salt.
According to Matt Margolis, an analyst writing for Seeking Alpha, the next iPhone will come with a sapphire glass display which will be embedded with solar panels to charge the smartphone on the go. Multiple patents filed by Apple in the past year support his claim.
Early last year, Apple had filed a patent for solar panels in touch sensors. The company later unveiled the mystery stating that the touch panel came equipped with a power mamagement system that would use the power of the embedded solar panels to charge up the display. Considering the display is what uses maximum of your smartphone battery, a solar-powered display panel could considerably reduce the strain on your standard battery, helping the phone stay powered longer.
Apart from the solar panels, reports also state that the display will not be the regular glass display but instead a sapphire glass screen. The sapphire screen will definitely up the premium quotient and improve durability.
Apple is clearly leaning more towards innovations and the ‘wow’ factor rather than hard-core hardware improvements for the iPhones. Will it work? We shall let time tell. For now, our pans are full with salt-grains for all the Apple rumours!

MICROSOFT/NOKIA MERGER

http://newsduet.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Nokia-articleLarge.jpg
Could this be Microsoft’s breakthrough into the smart phone industry?
Microsoft incorporation has moved a step further to enhance its success in the smart industry by facilitating a merger with phone giant industry Nokia. Though there has  been a series of legal disputes including one from an Indian firm which was seeking to block the assimilation of Nokia, everything else has flowed well and it may be one big boost to both companies.
Looking at Microsoft’s success in the computer industry especially with the widely used computer program-mes and operating systems, it may mark the beginning of a new era in the smart industry as Nokia has a great coverage in the whole globe and they command a large consumer market.
On the other hard Microsoft has been in the business for a long time and when the two come together we can vaguely predict what we can expect from both fields. It will also help as Nokia has always been trying to command the smart phone industry but with brands like Samsung and Apple selling much and coming up with new and so complicated devices daily it had been a rough ride for them.
Now the competition is stiff and we may never know what is next but it is obvious greater thing are already popping.

GOOGLE EARNINGS SHOOT UP BY 17%

The world’s largest search engine Google has reported a massive shoot of profits in the fourth quarter of the ended year.  Google reported that their profits shot up by 17 per cent compared to the one recorded in 2012. The company credited this success to their strong advertising revenue which have surpassed rivals Facebook and  Yahoo.
Google earlier sold Motorola which they had acquired just two years ago to Chinese phone electronic giants Lenovo. In a report regarding the sale of Motorola they said that the company had recorded a loss of $384 million in the past year which more than double compared to the $152 million which it recorded in the 2012. The sale of Motorola was welcomed well in the stock market as Google shares immediately shot up. Lenovo acquired Motorola at a cost of $2.91 billion in what comes as its bid to try to breakthrough into the western market of America.
The sale of Motorola had come as a surprise move from Google but as it has emerged it was one well calculated move as the company (Motorola) has been viewed as the dragging element in the Google company. It has therefore been hindering the rise of Google shares in the stock market.
Google in a report said that Motorola would be better when served by Lenovo. Lenovo will be able to compete with rivals Samsung, Apple and Huawei in the market as it establishes its expanding business venture to the west.

ISRO joins the elite club: GSLV D-5 successful

It was a quite euphoric rush of emotions at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota on Sunday evening after the successful launch of GSLV D-5. The GSLV D-5 carrying communication satellite GSAT-14 lifted  off from the ISRO's Sriharikota port at 4:18 pm.
After overcoming several hurdles, ISRO's attempt to establish credibility in launching India's communication satellite has finally succeeded. With this, India joins the list of space-faring nations United States, Russia, France, Japan and China who have seen success with indigenous cryogenic engines.

"Not many countries have mastered this complex technology. We have qualified the cryogenic engine. It's a milestone," said K Radhakrishnan, Chairman, ISRO. Indian Space research organization was under huge pressure to develop its own engine as the ISRO had already used six out of seven cryogenic engines that India had bought from Russia. However the officials were very confident of launching this successfully.

"I'm proud to say that ISRO has done it. The Indian cryogenic engine has performed as predicted as expected for this mission and injected precisely the GSAT 14 communication into the intended orbit. It is another major achievement for the GSLV programme and I would say it is an important day for science and tech in the country and space tech in the country," added K Radhakrishnan.

In the past three years, India has seen two failures - in April and December 2010. Last year, the GSLV flight with an indigenous cryogenic engine was called off an hour before the lift after a leak in the liquid tank.

This launch was very crucial for ISRO as the technology is extremely complex as the satellite uses liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen at -183 degree centigrade and -253 degree respectively. As it involves fuel usage at extreme low temperatures, it has posed a challenge to several countries, while only a few were able to master it.

No business as usual till Khobragade issue resolved: India

India on Monday made it clear to the US that it cannot be "business as usual" between the two sides till the Devyani Khobragade issue is resolved.

This was conveyed by Vikram Doraiswami, Joint Secretary (Americas), to US Ambassador Nancy Powell when she met him at South Block here.

Doraiswami firmly put across to the US envoy that "it is your process and you have to sort it out", sources said.

New Delhi's assertion assumes significance in the context of the January 13 deadline for the indictment in New York of senior diplomat Khobragade on visa fraud charges.

The US said last month it is proceeding with the prosecution of Khobragade and has no intention of withdrawing the case of visa fraud against her.

India has been demanding the withdrawal of the case against her and an apology from the US for the treatment meted out to the 39-year-old diplomat, including a strip search and detention with criminals after her arrest on December 12.

The incident led to strong protests by the Indian government and widespread indignation in India. At the time of her arrest, Khobragade was the Deputy Consul General in New York. She was subsequently transferred to India's Permanent Mission to the UN.

A 1999-batch IFS officer, Khobragade was arrested on charges of making false declarations in a visa application for her maid Sangeeta Richard. She was released on a USD 250,000 bond.

India retaliated by downgrading privileges of a certain category of US diplomats among other steps last month.

Indian Mujahideen (IM)

The outlawed terror group Indian Mujahideen (IM) is more lethal and resilient because of the support it receives from Pakistan, according to a new report by an American thinktank.

The report 'Jihadist Violence: The Indian Threat' by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars underlines that the Indian jihadist movement constitutes an "internal security issue with an external dimension."

"The Indian jihadist movement formed organically and as a result of endogenous factors, specifically communal grievances and a desire for revenge, but is more lethal and more resilient than it otherwise would have been, thanks to external support from the Pakistani state and Pakistan and Bangladesh-based militant groups," said the 100-page report.

The decentralized IM network has a loose leadership currently based in Pakistan, but moving between there and the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, said the report authored by noted South Asia security expert Stephen Tankel.

"External support was a force multiplier for Indian militancy rather than a key driver of it. Although the IM receives support from LeT, it should not be viewed as an affiliate within the same command-and-control hierarchy. This distinguishes the IM from some of the other LeT cells or operatives active in India," it said.

The report is based on research conducted over twenty months from January 2012 to September 2013 and draws on primary and secondary source material as well as on field interviews conducted in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Jaitley lambasts Manmohan, calls his press meet a farce

Arun Jaitley
The main Opposition BJP on Friday lambasted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over price rise and corruption, calling his press conference a farce.

Stating that there was nothing new in the PM's press conference, except that he ruled himself out of the third term, leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said the conference was to announce his own farewell. Jaitley tore into the UPA II, saying Manmohan did not express any regret about the over-all corruption and price. Instead, he chose the occasion on Friday to rationalise it.

"Except the announcement he is unavailable, the rest of the PC was a formality and turned out to be a farce. If we read between the lines he admits that his Government failed to curb corruption and check unemployment and contain inflation," he said.

The senior BJP leader slammed the prime minister for rationalising corruption.

"He failed to check corruption in coal block and 2G. He could have stopped it. He said corruption was in UPA 1 but he won following 2009 election. Does he mean to say by winning elections charges of corruption disappear. This excuse could also be used by criminals, who at times win elections," Jaitley said.

Despite being the most powerful man in the world, President Barack Obama is not allowed to use an iPhone because his security advisers have claimed it is not secure enough.
“I am not allowed, for security reasons, to have an iPhone,” Obama quipped during a pitch for his healthcare law at the White House, intimating that he was forced to be behind the curve in technology adoption.
His daughters, Sasha and Malia, however, do have iPhones, and “seem to spend a lot of time” using them, he said.

The iPhone is insecure

Obama famously became the first president in US history to use email and battled with the NSA in 2009 to allow him to keep a BlackBerry, a fight he eventually won although it is allegedly restricted to communicating with just 10 people.
Apple’s iPhone has yet to be certified as secure for government and military use by White House staff, meaning that the president and his staff are restricted from using Apple’s smartphone.
Despite not being allowed an iPhone, Obama does have an iPad 2, which was personally given to him by Steve Jobs before the device was released to the public in 2011.

Geek Vs Geek: Google Glass: Revolutionary Tech, or a Gimmicky Fad?

Even if you aren’t a geek, it’s hard to avoid Google Glass, that wearable computer masquerading as a pair of glasses. Is Google leading the way towards a bold new world of tech that becomes part of your clothing, or is it an expensive, dorky, and misguided shot into the dark night of the future?

Once a month, eHow Tech editor Dave Johnson faces off against Rick Broida, who writes about technology for CNET, PC World, and Wired. Follow along as they tackle this question from opposing corners.
Rick: Google Glass. A $1,500 pair of non-prescription glasses with an on-demand heads-up display so you can focus your attention on whatever information you consider more important than what you’re currently doing: driving, conversing, performing open-heart surgery, and so on. Yay, another distraction! This is the beginning of the end for society as we know it.
Dave: No, the zombie apocalypse is the beginning of the end of society as we know it. Google Glass is a way for me to watch clips from “The Walking Dead” while I pretend to have a conversation with you. See? Much better.
Rick: Right, and I suspect you’ll be among the Falling Dead when you fail to notice that open manhole cover while walking down the street. You’ll be among the Freeway Pileup Dead when you start reading e-mail during your next road trip. And you’ll be the Talking Dead when your wife realizes you’ve tuned her out during dinner conversation. Yep, you heard it here first: Google Glass will kill us all! Well, mostly you.
Dave: Okay, so putting aside the fact that you somehow think I’m going to become Chris Hardwick’s Walking Dead after-show, let’s talk Glass. Yes, it’s expensive. You obviously have to be a die-hard geek to invest that much money in a pair today, and it’s hardly even an issue because getting a pair is by invitation only. But it’s truly the future of computing. Do you think that people will check Twitter or driving directions on their phone 50 years from now? No, it’ll be displayed on their contact lenses or injected directly into their brains. Glass is a preview of the absolutely inevitable future.
Rick: No, it’s an experiment in technology, much the way that virtual-reality glasses were back in the 90s. And now that we’re all wearing VR helmets–oh, right, no we’re not. Trust me, no one wants to wear glasses who doesn’t have to. And people who have to don’t want ugly frames and added bulk. They certainly don’t want to have to keep their glasses charged from day to day. I’ll admit to being fascinated by Google Glass from a technology standpoint, but I’ve yet to hear any compelling reasons I’d want to lug it around on my head all day. You have some, I assume?

Dave: What aspect of reading my words eludes you? Sometimes, talking to you is like Ripley telling Weyland-Yutani executives about an alien infestation on LV-426. As I just said, Google Glass is an early prototype of what will someday be far sleeker and more sophisticated, eventually becoming completely invisible. But even today, in its primitive state, Glass has some awesome applications. When I got to play with a pair, I was really taken by a recipe app that displayed instructions in the corner of my eye so I could work in the kitchen with both hands free — and not get a recipe book or iPad covered in flour and butter.

Rick: Ah, so once again, instead of addressing my points, you fall back to your standard cite-obscure-movie-references-to-make-yourself-seem-cooler position. Sadly, there aren’t enough obscure movie references in the world to accomplish that. The recipe thing sounds neat, Betty Crocker, but not $1,500’ worth of neat. I’ve never been in favor of forcing technology into places just because you can, and except for keeping your apron clean, you still haven’t given me any compelling real-world examples of how Google Glass will justify its price or hassle-factors. Also, how will I find it when it becomes completely invisible?
Dave: It boggles my mind that you believe Aliens is an obscure movie. Your cinematic illiteracy notwithstanding, I love the principle that Glass represents — always-on, pervasive access to information without fumbling for any kind of gadget. If you aren’t intrigued by that, you surely must hate technology. In addition to what Glass lets you do out of the box — navigation, picture taking, web searching, sending emails and text, and more — you can browse apps for a ton of other capabilities. Certainly, some Glass apps are gratuitous (like the one that lets you control your Nest thermostat). But scroll the list and you’ll see many apps that are genuinely handy to put in your field of vision, hands-free. The bottom line is that you just dislike computer-y things, because electricity is new and scary. I’ll get off your lawn, grandpa, and I’ll take my frightening computertronic eyeglasses with me.
